Won’t stay up By Sean Kennedy The case (when folded into the triangular stand) will not stay up. Even when no pressure is applied to the iPad, it will collapse after a minute or two. If you are just looking for a case, this is okay. However, if you want a stand for your iPad, go elsewhere.

Poor design, does not function properly By -DG For $30, you would expect a functioning case, and that is not what you get with this item. The front piece does not fold at the same spots as the smart cover, causing issues supporting the ipad. Watching movies it works OK, but can easily be tipped over, even by a slight knock on the table. Typing is a different story. It collapsed 4 times while typing a short email. I am going to stick to a smart cover and hope that some company will come up with a cost effective way to protect the back of the device while still allowing use of the smart cover to compliment. I will be sending this back.

It’ll do until something better comes along By Roquentin I bought this to replace the Apple Smart Cover, because the Smart Cover (1) doesn’t protect the back and corners and (2) can become accidentally decoupled from the iPad, which in my case caused me to drop the iPad with near disastrous results. I needed a case similar to the Smart Cover but with corner/back protection and a permanently attached cover. This one meets that criteria but falls short in several ways:
- When the front cover is folded/rolled back and the iPad positioned for landscape viewing, the triangle shape eventually becomes undone. Within minutes, it slips out of position, causing the iPad to fall over. The Smart Cover solves this by magnetically sealing itself into the triangle position. This case doesn’t do that, so it fails in its basic function as a stand. Deal breaker.
- When the front cover is folded back for reading like a book, it doesn’t fold back flat, and it also covers the camera hole on the back cover. This might be OK if the part that didn’t fold flat were positioned more toward the hinge, so that at least it would work as a very low-angle prop, but the raised portion is more toward the middle, so that the iPad rocks when resting on the folded-back cover. I’ll post a picture of this.
- The inside material of the front cover isn’t the same material as that used in the Smart Cover. It’s more like black velvet than microsuede, and it attracts pet and human hair like a magnet.
- The front cover has magnets, but only to keep the front cover closed, not to activate the iPad cover lock/unlock feature.
Currently I’m holding out hope for Speck’s new Pixelskin HD Wrap, once it becomes available.
